Despite being a native of Arkansas, Russell is a proud Houstonian, having lived in the city since 2007. After earning a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Houston-Downtown, Russell attended South Texas College of Law Houston. He graduated from STCLH Summa Cum Laude in 2019 with both his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration through the school’s dual-degree program in conjunction with the University of St. Thomas

While in law school, Russell also attended and graduated from the United States Marine Corps’ Officer Candidate School (OCS) and was commissioned as an Officer. Russell then served on active duty from 2020-2023. After spending 6 months learning how to be a provisional rifle Platoon Commander at the Basic School in Quantico, VA, Russell spent the remainder of his active-duty tour serving in the role of a Judge Advocate.  This included time as both an Assistant Trial Counsel (Prosecutor) and a Defense Counsel.   

As an Assistant Trial Counsel, Russell represented the United States Government in dozens of administrative hearings focused on upholding and enforcing the high standards expected of being a Marine.  He also assisted certified Trial Counsel in the investigation, preparation, and prosecution of various misdemeanor and felony-level court-martials. Thereafter, as a Defense Counsel, Russell provided legal counseling and representation to over 550 Marines and Sailors facing various punitive actions ranging from simple non-judicial punishments or administrative separations to complex misdemeanor and felony-level courts-martial. This included representation in over 100 courts-martial cases and obtaining not guilty verdicts in all contested trials.  Russell is currently serving in the rank of Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.
